About Old Corkscrew (Estero, FL)
Billed as the only "stand alone" Jack Nicklaus course in Southwest Florida, Old Corkscrew Golf Club is not part of a real estate development. Named for the winding river nearby, it's set on a 275-acre site about seven miles east of I-75. The course is built to Audubon International standards and reflects its original natural setting with stands of cypress and magnificently tall pines. Nicklaus' design philosophy is apparent throughout with well balanced holes that vary in direction, look, and feel. they moved our tee time back from the preaaranged time and put us behnind a match play member match which made the round uncomfortably long for us since we had 36 holes planned in the afternoon and then the starter accused us of holding up play when each of our groups had to wait on every shot due the match ahead. as soon as the match was over we flew in once the back log was over. did not apreciate being accused of holding up play when we arrived for our PM tee time a little late when it was their fault for moving the morning tee time back and then putting us behind a match play group. otherwise we all love the course and seem to always have positive experience except for this situation

This is waaaaay too difficult a course for couples to play. We played with another couple, and that lady said playing this course was "agony"...none of us disagreed. We decided that perhaps Jack Nicklaus was in pain and facing his hip replacement surgery and wanted everyone who played this course to be in pain, too! Actually, playing the course on "club championship day" when the greens were double-cut and rolled and the pins were in "crazy hard" placements (again, that is what one of the others said)...Simply put, it was a beautiful looking course that we never care to see again - there is just an unfairness about it...I guess that is what the memebers wanted?? Obviously not our fave...
